SECNAV visits Marines, sailors in Afghanistan

080824-M-2322L-242
HELMAND PROVINCE, Delaram, Afghanistan – During a recent three-day trip that included stops in Italy, Sweden and Africa, Secretary of the Navy, The Honorable Mr. Donald C. Winter, traveled here to visit with service members of Task Force 2d Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, part of Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix.

During his visit, the SECNAV was flown to Forward Operating Base Delaram — one of the unit’s most remote FOBs, and taken to the site where a Medical Capabilities event was being hosted by Marines of 3rd Civil Affairs Group and Navy corpsmen assigned to the Battalion Aid Station. The task force provided medical care to more than 140 Afghan patients during the MEDCAP, which is one of various civil military operations projects coordinated to help improve the health of the local Afghan community.
Comprised of more than 1,200 Marines, sailors, soldiers, airmen, National Guardsmen and civilian contractors who specialize in police operations, the task force is conducting counterinsurgency operations with a focus on police training and mentoring within assigned boundaries in order to set the conditions for the successful integration and future assumption of authority by the Afghan National Police. A movie to keep an eye out for

This looks like it might be really good. It is a documentary movie of the National Training Center (NTC) in Ft. Irwin, CA. I have four tours at NTC, three as bluefor (good guys) and one as opfor (bad guys). I think this will be a really good documentary that will educate the American people about the level of training and preperation the US Military does to prepare for combat.

Some more news out of the Stan?

Back on the 18th, I wrote about some changes possibly coming with the ownership of command in Afghanistan. Well to go along with that, you should also check out www.usnews.com/articles/news/iraq/2008/08/19/pentagon-plans-to-send-more-than-12000-additional-troops-to-afghanistan.html which I think is related. It looks like the recent admissions that Anbar province is safer than ever in Afghanistan and this, we will see more troops getting there sooner than later.

Blogger Roundtable with LTC Hall, 8/27/08

The other day, DOD Live sponsored another Blogger’s Roundtable with LTC Hall from 2/7 Marines. I really wanted to be on this one, but my full time life (i.e. civilian work schedule) prevented me from taking part. However I strongly encourage you to listen as LTC Hall has some great updates on 2/7s progress. There were a few technical issues during the call, but you can still hear all of the content. I recently wrote about 2/7 adn the shift they have seem to have undertaken from purely ANP mentoring to more of a kinetic fight against the enemy. This is why I wanted to be on the call, as I wanted to ask about that first hand. I am sure I will get a chance again soon.

Despicable

This idiot, I am sorry that is what he is, just makes me sick. He was one of the worst Presidents in the history of our country (the worst since I have been alive), has embraced the neck-cutting and child murdering terrorist as friends, and is now trying to put in his two cents on the National stage again. The guy was impudent as a President and did so much damage to our country during his years of reign that it took over twice as much time to repair the damage. Heck it took him being voted out of office and President Reagan getting voted in, just to get the Iranians to release our hostages. The Iranians knew that Jimmy Carter did not have the stones to do anything and was of no threat, but they knew better then mess with President Reagan.

Who is he to judge and comment on Sen. McCain? Where was he when McCain was being tortured in a prison cell of North Vietnam? Yeah, that is what I thought. He is nothing but an oxygen thief.

McCain-Palin…YEAAAHHH!

I don’t talk a lot of politics on this blog, but since the next President will no doubt have a huge impact on our military over the next several years, I think this warrants being here.

Lets just say I am very excited and happy that he picked Gov. Palin. Who better to be the #2, then a hockey mom from Alaska. She has done many amazing things and her thinking is right along with mine. She supports drilling ANWR, supports youth Hockey and has a son in the military.
