Bouhammer's Military Blog

A blog about Military Issues, Afghanistan, and everything in between

Keep an eye on Doonesbury this week

A little while back, I was asked by the Duty Officer, David, over at the Sandbox website to provide some info to Garry T. for an upcoming series of strips he was creating. David and Garry wanted to know what kind of music I listened to while on missions in Afghanistan. I guess there were about 7 people who responded to the request, including me. I have been very privileged to receive an advance copy of all the strips which will run through Sat, Dec 1st. They are really good and pretty realistic. I can also see some of my input in several of the strips.

So keep an eye on your local paper or on www.doonesbury.com/strip/dailydose/index.html to read the daily strips.

Happy Thanksgiving

I would like to take a moment and wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving from the Bouhammer Military and Afghanistan Blog. I hope this finds you doing well and that you enjoy your day with family and friends.

Also, please don’t forget about our men and women deployed all over the world in places like, Afghanistan, Iraq, Philippines, Kuwait, Horn of Africa, Korea, Kosovo, Italy, German, K-stan, Republic of Georgia, Bahrain, on the oceans all over the world, and everywhere else that service-members may be serving today either known or unknown. Add them to your prayers today if you would not mind.

Loss of Respect

That is what I have for this guy. I once had a lot of respect for him, what he had accomplished and how he had served his country. However now that he has been forced into retirement, mostly because of the Abu Ghraib scandal, and is sitting comfortably at home he decides to armchair quarterback the current situation in Iraq. Normally I would not care about some “expert” doing this like they normally do on the talkshows, but he was there, he was in charge and he had the ability to significantly influence the outcome.

Now that GEN Petreaus is accomplishing what Sanchez couldn’t he is going spout off and feed the ultra-liberal full of hate machine.

I was having a good Turkey day until I read this…www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,156861,00.html?ESRC=topstories.RSS

A culture we will never understand

In my many talks with people since I have come back, in this blog a few times, and even in some of the interviews I have given; I have mentioned the fact that homosexuality is pretty rampant in Afghanistan. In fact, the southeastern areas where I were and the northern part of Afghanistan have the heaviest populations of homosexuals in the country.

This story that came out during the week paints a picture you never hear about in the mainstream media, in a UN report or anywhere else. The sad thing is that this is just a small example of a lot bigger problem that is not only in the north and southeast, but really over the entire country.

This is also an example of the culture difference we have and why our country will never understand this one. You can read what I am talking about by clicking below.
